The Challenge

While R&D expenses have increased dramatically over the last few decades, the number of newly approved drugs has decreased significantly. Therefore, the pharmaceutical industry has recognized an urgent need to supply their pipelines with promising, new LEAD candidates. This trend is sustained by a systemic weakness of the current research model, which is based on random LEAD identification that utilizes easily accessible synthetic libraries.  These sample libraries contain many chemical redundancies, and consequently, little variation. This results in a lack of unique, “drugable” LEAD structures.
