Food
The Challenge
Many well established products contain active ingredients that are effective but expensive to supply or unavailable for a new product design due to IP restrictions. Finding a substitute would provide a significant competitive advantage. Successfully introducing a new product on the other hand, may be noticeably facilitated by offering additional functional ingredients. Knowledge of innovative or substitute ingredients for a given product may be the determining factor for a profitable innovation.
IMD’s uniqueness
IMD possesses a proprietary development portfolio that offers a risk-sharing approach to new and promising additives for foods. We also provide product oriented research solutions. IMD finds new patentable ingredients that produce a desired effect or an alternative that can substitute for a substance already in use. Through our research capabilities we identify additives that give a desired pharmacological effect to the food product, build a solid IP platform, and provide a complete early stage research dossier for further evaluation. To facilitate such projects, we possess extensive proprietary information as well as external data on literature and biological test results regarding virtually all relevant indications and the corresponding biological sources that may be of interest for these indications. In addition, our broad and highly experienced network of collaborative partners and suppliers enables us to cover all the core indication areas.
In March 2008, InterMed Discovery signed a collaboration agreement giving Cognis, the global specialty chemicals supplier, exclusive access to selected potential active ingredients for specific applications in functional foods.
