Dr. Jens Bitzer
Director Cosmetic Ingredients,
Head Structure Elucidation
Dr. Jens Bitzer studied chemistry at the Georg August University in Göttingen, where he obtained the degree of a ‘Dr. rer nat.’ under the supervision of Prof. Dr. A. Zeeck in 2005. In the research group for biomolecular chemistry he specialised in Natural Products chemistry. His main scientific interests include new secondary metabolites from natural sources and their applications in life sciences, crop protection and biochemical research. Dr. Jens Bitzer has extensive experience in structure elucidation of Natural Products, combined with substantial knowledge of biosynthetic pathways and chemical ecology. Coming from a postdoctoral research position at the university in Göttingen, he joined InterMed Discovery GmbH (IMD) in March 2006.
Current responsibilities
Dr. Jens Bitzer is responsible for Natural Products structure elucidation, based on 1D and 2D NMR spectrometry and advanced mass spectrometric methods. His expertise also includes fast dereplication of known metabolites using proprietary as well as public databases and software. The high accuracy of IMD's structure elucidation is assured by precise interpretation of analytical data and expert knowledge on taxonomy, biosynthetic pathways, scientific databases and literature.Additionally Dr. Bitzer is in charge of IMD's cosmetic projet pipeline and superviseschemical synthesis, derivatisation and lead optimisation studies within IMD's pharmacological projects.
